Prism relfects dazzling residential ambitions

May 2010 – The Vinkhuizen area in Groningen is the location for the Prism residential complex. The new building is home to 52 rented flats catering to all life phases, a parent and child centre with a playschool, a play and parenting shop, and a well-baby clinic. Verzinkerij Wolvega hot-dip galvanised the steel structure. The filler sheets and other small parts were hot-dip galvanised by Centrizink Wolvega.

The complex was built for the housing corporation De Huismeesters, which owns about 8,000 homes in Groningen. The ambition of De Huismeesters was to supply good living in good neighbourhoods, providing residents with affordable housing and a pleasant living environment. The flats, which are designed to cater to all life phases, occupy 16 floors. The building is 50 metres tall. From the upper floors and the roof, there is a magnificent view of Groningen and the surrounding area. During planning and construction, local residents and the tenant council of De Huismeesters were involved in consultations with the architect, NL Architects, about the design.

All the structural steel and the balcony frames with expanded metal were produced and mounted by Konstruktiebedrijf Visser from Veenwoude, with whom Verzinkerij Wolvega and Centrizink Wolvega have worked for many years. With the completion of the Prism, Konstruktiebedrijf Visser and Verzinkerij Wolvega have joined forces to contribute to a sustainable and pleasant residential environment in the Vinkhuizen area in Groningen.
